That Deus Ex Machina

July 23rd, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

Okay, I’ve seen some people complaining about the lion-turtle at the end of episode 319 (that’d be The Old Masters), saying that it was a deus ex machina plot point. That the whole concept of the lion-turtle was included just so Aang wouldn’t have to finish the job, that is, kill Ozai.

And That’s That

July 21st, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

Well ladies and germs, last Saturday yielded what could probably be the most amazing episodes from Avatar: the Last Airbender.

The best thing about it is that we were all treated to two hours’ worth of glorious AtlA goodness. From the build-up in The Phoenix King to the final climax at the very end (with the countryside-spanning battle between Aang and Ozai OMG), everything was pretty much perfection. The creators really outdid themselves with this final season.

If you missed it, and you consider yourself an Avatard, then you just missed the entire point of your fanaticism. Wait for the next showing, or buy the DVD when it comes out. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

So now that AtlA is over, what else do we have to look forward to? Well, here are a couple of things:

  1. The Last Airbender - the feature films by M. Knight Shyamalan are pretty much still in the oven, baking. There’s always the question of whether the films will turn out good, but it’s something to look forward to at least.
  2. The creators plan on coming up with something new in the Avatar universe. A new series, perhaps?

One thing’s for sure, though: this is the last we’ll ever see of Aang and company.

Sozin’s Comet: The Final Battle

This commercial aired after “The Western Air Temple” came out in the US:

Whoa. Just whoa.

Do I really need to say anything else?

It Starts Tonight!

July 14th, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

In just a few hours, ladies and gentlemen, we will be witnessing the rebirth - well, it’ll pretty much be the end of the series, but it works either way - of the final leg of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Technically speaking, most of the net-oriented avatards would have seen the first few episodes that will be airing in the US by July 14 (that would be the episodes "The Western Air Temple" thru "The Boiling Rock II"), but hey, the show could use the added ratings, so check em out as they air, folks!

The real action begins on Thursday, when "The Southern Raiders" finally airs to the public, and the last remaining uncharted territory of Avatar Aang’s journey to avatarhood is breached. To get all of you pumped up for the finale, though, here’s a nice little fan video made by one of the regulars of DongBu Feng:

Avatar - Series Finale Trailer

Avatar Explodes in One Explosive Week!

July 1st, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

Forgive the double metaphors. :D But really.

It’s less than two weeks to go before our favorite series finally comes full circle. Let the commercial from Nickelodeon do the talking for me:

Isn’t this exciting or what? XD

The Last Airbender

News regarding Avatar: the Last Airbender’s winding down in anticipation of the forthcoming finale, and everything’s been quiet in the fandom. But recently, Viacom released this press release regarding the upcoming movie adaptation by M. Night Shyamalan.

There have also been some interviews with the good director popping up here and there in the Net. Most of these interviews cover his upcoming movie The Happening, although they do touch somewhat on his thoughts regarding the Avatar films. You can find the interviews here, here and here.

Hello

May 29th, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

I’ve been absent from this blog for quite some time, eh? Because really, there’s been very little going on in the Avatar front. There’s technically nothing to look forward to in the fandom aside from the return of the series this July. Even Dongbu Feng and Avatar Spirit, my two prime sources for all Avatar-related news, haven’t seen much activity the past few days. The latest update comes from TV Guide; it seems that the entire 3rd season boxed set will be released on the 16th of September, 2008, a couple of months after the entire series ends in July. Here is an image of the box art:

I personally don’t find the box art to be interesting in any way. It’s just a two-faced Aang, with a lot of Chinese characters all over ala Matrix rain. Big deal.

I find this more interesting: the first part of the "Escape from the Spirit World" flash comics that serve as a bridge from the end of book two and the start of book three.

Geez

Okay, the "Sozin’s Comet" novelization was released over the weekend, and as such, spoilers have been released into the web. Such awesomeness; I couldn’t stop myself from going through them as fast as I could. As a matter of fact, it ate up a good two hours of my time going through the spoilers / doing a bit of research. And still I’m looking forward to the finale. Avatar’s so good, not even spoilers can stop me from appreciating a well-orchestrated ending.

That said, what I don’t understand is some of the fans’ reactions to the revelations. So much so that they go and disown the creators for coming up with the ending. Check this Deviant Art thread, for example. You can really feel the hate. Meh.

It’s like the creators of Avatar failed these guys for the past two seasons. I mean, you guys became fans of the show for all that time - what’s wrong with accepting how Brian and Mike wanted it to end?

C’mon kids. Grow up. You guys’re old enough to ask for a more mature version of Avatar - why can’t you guys be more mature?

A Quick One

Caught the news from Dongbu Feng that IGN.com was doing an episode-by-episode review of the entire Avatar TV series. While this might not sound too exciting for veteran watchers of the show, all you new fans out there might want to read up on how the critics and fans react to each and every episode of this awesome show. You can read the review of the first episode here.

It might interest all of you veterans out there that you can help IGN out by filling in some of the missing portions, or by posting your own review of an episode. Here’s your chance to contribute to Avatar: the Last Airbender’s posterity!

Avatar Withdrawal Syndrome Aftershocks

April 30th, 2008 by avatarded:hellokitty.com

It’s been a real busy past few days for all Avatards. There was the news about the trailer for the upcoming finale during the recently concluded New York Comic Convention. There was also the sneak preview of "Ember Island Players" shown during the said convention, which undoubtedly sent fans into delirious heights of happiness (considering the recent drought).

Then Nick released the prospective airdates of the remaining episodes of the series. As of now, the Avatar comes back for the last time on July 14th. On a side note, Johanne Matte, who has been steadily releasing her Water Tribe alternate universe comics through her Livejournal blog, decided to go on hiatus as well, and return at the same time the series returns (which I find curious).

And finally, something broke last weekend. In tribute to Dongbu Feng’s method of hiding spoilers, you can read the rest of this entry by highlighting the next few lines. Both episodes of "The Boiling Rock" were leaked into the web!!

So if you’re wondering where I’ve been the past few, I only have one answer for you: I’ve been spazzing out on AWS aftershocks.
